Daily activities and workshops encourage exploration of the science behind the arts, all with a French twist!

Explore the integration of science and art as you explore French cooking, build an Eiffel tower and a mag lev bullet train, explore the French Alps and learn about muscles and healthy habit with our Pilates classes! Daily Activity included with admission, DSP Members participate in activities for FREE. *Pre-registration and fee apply for workshops. Saturday, March 6th
CANSTRUCTION – A community engineering and sculpture project. Bring canned food
items to help build an Eiffel tower. All cans will be donated to East Texas Food Bank.
(Noon-4:00 pm)
SCALING THE FRENCH ALPS – Experience a rock climbing wall and the science behind it.
(Noon-4:00 pm)
RATATOUILLE the movie in the Ship Theatre from 1-3
Sunday, March 7th
MAG LEV Workshop ($5 materials fee) – The science of magnetic levitation bullet trains
in Discovery Zone. France is well known for its trains and for being part of the well
known Orient Express Line. Come learn more about modern trains and design a train car
of your own. (2:30-3:30 pm)
COTTON BELT DEPOT MUSEUM DISPLAY AND DEMO (All Day)
Monday, March 8th
THE SCIENCE OF COOKING IN DSP’S “Le Goute” Class ($20 per child) – With Chef
Christian Chavanne, children will make crepes and ratatouille and learn the science
behind what they make. Part of the Science of Cooking Series. (10:00am -12:00 pm)
Ages 8-10. Pre-registration required.
Tuesday, March 9th
MORNING AND MIDDAY PILATES ($5 per person) - Have fun with Pilates and learn
about muscles and healthy habits with instructors from Balance. (9:30 am and 1:00 pm)
Pre-registration required.
TRAVEL WITH BABAR – Students will learn to work with a map as they study the
weather, landscape and people around the world on a journey with Babar. (1:00-3:00
pm) Pre-registration required.
Wednesday, March 10th
LUNCH AT CHEZ DSP ($10 per person) – Experience lunch in a Parisian Café and possibly
meet a surprise visitor or two. (11:00 am-1:00 pm) Sponsored by Chez Bazan. Seating is
limited. Pre-registration required.
THE SCIENCE OF BOOKMAKING – Create your own Babar book. Students will work with
storytelling and put together small books and illustrate them. Pre-registration required.
(1:00-3:00 pm)
Thursday
